What to Expect
For dancers & for parents!

We’re thrilled to welcome you to an unforgettable Press Play experience! Before attending a Press Play event, we recommend checking with your studio for any tips, advice, or specific policies they may have.
If their guidance differs from ours, follow their advice — they know you best!
Here’s a lot of what you need to know to make the most of your weekend:
The Event
Press Play events are a full weekend packed with high-energy classes, inspiring competition performances, and unique experiences. You’ll learn from top industry choreographers, connect with dancers from all over the world, and leave energized, motivated, and stronger than ever.
Expect a fast-paced, exciting environment with lots of moving parts — be ready to jump into class, perform, cheer on your teammates, and celebrate the art of dance!
Venue/Hotel
- Our events are held in large hotel ballrooms or convention centers. Please refer to your specific Tour Date page for more info on the Press Play venue.
- Press Play always secures a room block with a host hotel offering discounted room rates. Please reserve early, as most host hotels will sell out. Again, you can find the hotel info on your specific Tour Date page.
What to wear
- Dress for movement and performance — athletic or dancewear you can move comfortably in.
- Style according to the class:
- Jazz/Contemporary: form-fitting dancewear, jazz shoes, socks or bare feet
- Hip-Hop/Jazz Funk: streetwear vibes (sneakers encouraged)
- Ballet: form-fitting dancewear, ballet shoes if you have them! It is not required to wear a leotard and tights, although you are more than welcome to!
- Tap: tap shoes if you have them! Don’t tap? We encourage you to at least try in the back, even without shoes.
- Ballroom: ballroom shoes, heels or whatever you are comfortable in
- Layers are key! Classrooms can be cold or hot depending on the venue.
- Shoes & cover-ups should be worn in public areas of the hotels/venues.
- Ok… we gotta mention that Press Play gear is available at the merch shop if you want to rep Press Play during the day!
What to Bring
- Dance shoes
- Water bottle (hydration is crucial)
- Snacks/light meals (venue rules permitting)
- Extra clothes or layers
- Small towel
- Notebook/journal to take notes after classes if you want to remember combos or advice
- Any personal items you’ll need during the day (hair ties, deodorant, etc.)
- Good vibes and an open mind!
Pro Tip: Label your shoes and water bottle to avoid mix-ups!
How the day flows
- Check out our Sample Schedule for more details. The specific schedule for your city will be published on your Tour Date page 7-10 days before the event.
- Check-In: If you’re attending with a studio, there’s no need to check in individually! Your studio will handle everything for you, including wristbands, scholarship numbers, meeting times, and any other important information.
- Workshop Classes: Once dancers are in their assigned Workshop Rooms, they’ll stay in those rooms for the day, and the Press Play teachers will rotate between rooms. Settle in, get comfortable, and get ready for an amazing day of learning and inspiration!
- Competition: Solo, Duo/Trio, Group, and Production divisions compete by scheduled session blocks throughout the weekend.
- Awards: Celebrate the achievements of the day — and don’t miss special scholarships and recognitions!
- Jam Session, Runway Show & Closing Show: Watch and be inspired!
Scholarship Opportunities
- Dancers may be eligible for convention scholarships or future event invitations based on auditions and faculty recommendations.
- Each age division has a block of time during Workshop classes designated for their scholarship audition. During the first half of the block, dancers will learn a Jazz/Contemporary combination for the audition. Auditions may also include a Ballet combo. During the second half of the block, dancers audition for a panel of Press Play judges. Press Play faculty will select multiple dancers from each age group to receive a scholarship. Please note: Observers cannot watch the scholarship combination class or auditions.
- Please remember that all ages are as of January 1, 2026. You must be in your age-appropriate room for the scholarship audition combo and audition.
- Scholarship announcements typically occur during The Rewind (Closing Show) or in a time slot right before it in each Workshop room.
- Scholarships are also awarded by Press Play faculty who recognize stand-out talent, effort and/or potential in their classes.
- Press Play may offer additional scholarships to dancers at its discretion.
Food & Beverage options
- Some venues have on-site concessions available; others do not.
- It’s a good idea to pack water and light, energy-boosting snacks!
- Outside food and drink may be restricted based on the venue’s policies.
Spectator Information
- To observe Workshop classes, Friends & Family of registered dancers may purchase an Observer Band ahead of time, with their studio, IF the studio allows Observers. Click for more info on Observer Bands. If you plan to purchase an Observer Band on-site, please be prepared to provide the dancer’s full name, studio affiliation and date of birth for security verification.
- Friends and Family of registered dancers are welcome to watch the Competition throughout the weekend, free of charge. Click for more info on Competition Spectators.
- Friends and Family of registered dancers are also welcome to watch the Rewind (Closing Show) free of charge, though there is no seating for spectators (Standing Room Only).
- By attending, you consent to Press Play’s use of event media for marketing and promotional purposes.
- Be respectful of all dancers and the event environment — positivity is encouraged!
Livestream
- If friends or family can’t watch you compete in person, don’t worry! Enjoy a free livestream of the Competition in every city. While we aim to deliver a smooth and high-quality stream, please note that occasional technical issues may arise due to venue or internet limitations. Thank you for your patience and understanding!
